Who
I am...
There
was an article in Sarasota Arts by Ophelia Black featuring an art exhibit
called “Intuitive Art: The Artist as Shaman”, at Rosemary Court Galleries.
Within these words of the article I find myself described...
“Readers
of Joseph Campbell are familiar with the figure of the shaman. Found
in traditional cultures lacking rigid distinctions between art, religion and
science, the shaman was (and, in some places, still is) a kind of spiritual
general practictioner-entertainer, artist, guru, tribal storyteller,
priest and witch doctor all rolled into one, a human bridge between the visible
day-to-day world and the unseen world of powerful spiritual forces.”
I am multifaceted, “multi-realmed” and I need many words to define all of
the resources and talents that I have to contribute. I am a sculptor, teacher,
performing artist, clown, “hyoka,” mentor, director, videographer,
producer, recording engineer, shama(n), woodswomon, city womon, carpenter,
drum maker...deerwomon.
I have a Masters in Special Education, MS Ed. C.W. Post College, NY,
with certification to teach many levels of abilities. I am a PhD candidate in Intercultural Philosophy and Religion at the California Institute
of Integral Studies, San Francisco. My most heartful and gratifying
work to date is the body of work that I have created and developed over the
past 20 plus years. This body of work is Improvisational Movement-Theatre,
the “Art of Be-ing in the Moment”. Presently i refer to this work as "Shamanic Improvisation".The course of study that enhanced
this development were numerous classes and practices in these areas:
improvisational-movement theatre, shamanism, amazon kung-fu,
tai chi, buddhist studies,
vipassana meditation, yoga, dance classes including jazz, modern, break
dance, electric boogie, yes, electric boogie sometimes known as “pop”, theatre...to mention but a few.
I taught at New College from Spring 1997 to Fall 2001. During this time I
presented a variety of classes, performances and workshops such as; Contact
Dance, Transformational Growth Class, Shamanic Journey, Experiential Dance
and Sacred Geometry, and ISP (Independent Study Projects) Creative Art
Intensives. In the duration of my teaching I have also been a mentor
and guide, and continue to be, to several New College Students and Alumni.
My present ongoing self study and established business, www.mobilecapture.com, is digital audio/video recording, internet media and Live webcasting.
I have a series
of sculptures (cement and bronze) named “Informing the Future” and “New Gods
of Stone.”
